Time to become creative & start
to build the "plug" for your new
"machine".
Side view with temporary seat for
road test. Easier to work on minor
problems without the body in place.
Controls & interior of cabin. Seat
is 5" thick & covered with
automotive fabric. The floor is
finished with carpet.
Left side. Not fancy but functional.
Seat belt is installed but not
required.
Removable hardtop off for cruisn'.
No need to "climb-in" or "over"...just
open the door. Entry is both quick &
easy.
You may or may not like what I
have built--but a lot of people
think it's "REALLY NEAT"
Right side has no door. Top
weights 22 pounds. One person
can easily & quickly remove &
install the top.
Everything starts with a full size
paper drawing so you know
where you're going.
Plywood slats to form curve on
rear deck. Fill & shape with a
little Bondo. Quick & easy to do.
Masonite flanges used to
separate different body sections
of the "mold".
1/4" plywood side body panels
temporarily in place to check fit
& dimensions.
Wood inner door frame
fiberglassed to door skin. This
makes for a very solid assembly.
Windshield frame is a separate piece
from the body & uses safety glass.
The wiper mounts in the top center.
The floorboards & seat are made
of plywood & then glassed both top
& bottom.
The rear piece of the "plug" was
where I started to build the
body. It houses the tail-lights &
license plate.
The removeable hard top is built with
plywood & cardboard mailing tubes.
It is then glassed inside & out.
The mold has the first "lay-up" of
fiberglass & is now ready for two
more.
Large tail-lights & the yellow paint
make it easy to see this car day &
night. It's all about SAFETY...
